Gatineau police will maintain an increased presence for the foreseeable future in the area of Clément and Sabourin streets after a young schoolboy was allegedly approached by a suspicious man Monday morning.
Police say the incident occurred at about 8:15 a.m. when the boy, who attends La Traversée school, was waiting for a bus.
A man, estimated to be 50-60 years, allegedly approached the child and tried to lure him into his vehicle.
The boy fled to a car driven by an adult he knew.
The suspect drove off towards Notre Dame Street.
Police immediately beefed up patrols in the area, and continued the increased surveillance Tuesday morning.
The suspect is described as 50-60 years old with grey hair and a white beard, wearing silver-rimmed glasses. He was driving a burgundy minivan, possibly a Ford, described as an older model but in good condition.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Gatineau police info-line at 819-243-INFO (4636), option 5.
