There will be an inquest this fall into the death of a convicted murderer from Cornwall who died in prison in 2015.
Richard Chatelain, 58, a drifter, was being held in the Regional Treatment Centre of the Bath Institution, where he was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder.
Chatelain was convicted in 2003 of killing Stacey Heil, a sex worker from Ottawa, in October of 2000. Her body was discovered near Larose Forest in the Rockland-Clarence area. Chatelain also pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting another sex worker in the same area several months earlier.
In 1994, Chatelain was sentenced in Ottawa court to five-and-a-half years in prison after he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting two other sex workers in the Mer Bleue.
The inquest on Nov. 21 in Napanee under coroner Geoffrey Bond is expected to take two days. Inquests are mandatory when a person dies in custody.
