A Hamilton-area trucker had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood when was arrested for hitting a stopped construction sign truck on Highway 401 Tuesday night then fleeing the scene, the OPP alleges.
The occupant of the sign truck was hurt but the injuries aren’t considered life-threatening.
The tractor-trailer hit the sign truck at about 10 p.m. on the westbound Highway 401 in Augusta Township, about 100 km south of Ottawa, leaving a passenger’s side door behind, according to reports to Grenville County OPP.
Officers based in nearby Leeds County tracked the truck and driver to the Mallorytown service centre.
Kirandeep Singh Dhaliwal, 31, of Stoney Creek is charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to stop at a collision and impaired driving.
He appears in court in Brockville July 27.
