A 45-year-old Quinte West woman is facing a second-degree murder charge laid nine days after a pedestrian was fatally struck with a vehicle.

Nicole Lorraine Scardino was scheduled to appear in court in Belleville Tuesday for a bail hearing.

Samuel Joseph Andrews, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle collision on West Street on the afternoon of June 16.

Officers from the Quinte West detachment, paramedics and the fire department responded to the scene but the OPP quickly launched an investigation by local officers and the east region crime unit under the direction of Det.-Insp. Rob Matthews of the criminal investigations branch.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Quinte West OPP at 613-392-3561 or the force’s communicates centre at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
