Halloween events

Halloween isn’t the only thing happening in Ottawa this month, but it sure is a big part of it. All of Ottawa’s museums and historic sites are hosting family-friendly Halloween-themed events throughout the month. Here are some highlights.

Haunted House on the Hill
Billings Estate National Historic Site
Friday and Saturday nights, October 12 to 27

Confront your fears and leave the familiar behind as this historic site is transformed into a house filled with terror and chills. Dare yourself to set out into the darkness…Are you brave enough to face the Haunted House on the Hill?

Victorian Séances
Saturdays and Sundays
October 20 to 27
Billings Estate National Historic Site and Pinhey’s Point Historic Site

Discover one of the more mysterious sides of Victorian history with a traditional séance led by a psychic medium.

Trick or Treat with the Mayor
Saturday, October 27
City Hall

Come Trick or Treat with the Mayor and your favourite costumed characters outdoors on Marion Dewar Plaza. See what’s brewing in the Spooky Witches Den before visiting Dorothy, the Wonderful Wizard, and all of their friends in the Land of Oz. Decorate your very own miniature pumpkin and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies.

Pumpkin Party
Sunday, October 28
Nepean Museum

Looking for a safe, family-friendly place to celebrate the spookiest of seasons? We’re pulling out all the stops and delivering the fun with pumpkin decorating, face painting, and Halloween-inspired activities.

The 4th Annual Lansdowne Park Pumpkin Derby
Sunday Oct 28
Aberdeen Pavilion, Lansdowne

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Thursday, October 25

Design a pumpkin race car, build it, and let your imagination run wild to create an eye-catching racer. Compete for prizes and bragging rights. It’s a gravity race; the pumpkin racers roll down a ramp and hopefully make it to the finish line. All participants have a minimum of three races.
