11-year-old Girl Found Dead After Amber Alert Issued
An 11-year-old girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert has been found dead after she was allegedly abducted by her father.
Peel regional police issued an Amber Alert for Riya Rajkumar at about 11pm Thursday after she was not returned to her mother.
The girl did not live with her father on a full-time basis, police say, but was dropped off at a gas station in Mississauga at about 3pm Thursday so he could take her out for her birthday.
Police say Riya's mother called the authorities when the pair did not return at 6:30pm.
Investigators say her father, 41-year-old Roopesh Rajkumar, has been arrested and the homicide unit is investigating.
Police report that Riya's father allegedly made comments to her mother that he would harm himself and his daughter before the pair disappeared.
Riya was found dead around midnight and her father was arrested by provincial police a short time later about 130 kilometres north, near Orillia.
