China has officially recorded 1,367 asymptomatic infections of the novel coronavirus, the country's National Health Commission said on Wednesday.

In total, 130 new asymptomatic cases were diagnosed on Tuesday, while 302 were released from quarantine.

Thirty-six new cases of the virus were recorded on Tuesday -- all but one imported.
That brings the total number of imported cases to 806, according to the NHC

China has recorded 81,554 cases nationwide, as of Tuesday. It is unclear if that figure includes asymptomatic cases.

A total of 76,238 patients have recovered and been released from hospital, according to the NHC.

Seven new deaths were reported on Tuesday, bringing the country's death toll to 3,312. Six of the new fatalities were in Hubei, where the pandemic began.

In one month, coronavirus has gone from a China epidemic to a global crisis

Only one month ago, on March 3, there were about 92,000 cases of the novel coronavirus worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Of those, just over 80,000 were in mainland China, which was then slowly beginning to bring its local epidemic under control.

Since then, the number of cases around the world has skyrocketed. One month later, on April 3, there are more than 1 million infections globally.

Nowhere is this more clear than in the United States. On March 3, the country had recorded 118 cases, according to Johns Hopkins. It now has more than 245,000.

Just over a month ago, on March 1, Kings County in Washington state announced the first death from the coronavirus in the United States.

As of today, there are nearly 6,000 deaths in the US. Some US government estimates show a worst-case scenario with a death toll for the country that runs into the hundreds of thousands.

It still isn't clear when we will see a peak of the pandemic. While some countries are seeing a drop in the rate of new daily infections, such as South Korea, others are experiencing a second wave.

Speaking at a CNN town hall on Thursday, top US infectious diseases expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said that it could be some time before widespread lockdowns and stay-at-home orders have an effect on death tolls and infection counts.
"Even when you suppress or stabilize the number of new infections, it's still going to take a little while before you decrease in hospitalizations, a decrease in intensive care and a decrease in deaths. And in fact, deaths are the last thing that lag. So you could be doing well, and having a good effect on mitigation, and still see the deaths go up," Fauci said.

China reported no new novel coronavirus deaths or locally transmitted cases yesterday, according to the country's National Health Commission.

There were 32 new cases -- all of them imported from abroad.

This is the first time China has reported no new coronavirus deaths since the NHC began releasing daily updates in late January.

China has now recorded a total of 81,740 cases and 3,331 deaths, according to the NHC.

This doesn't represent the total number of active cases, but rather the number of infections since the pandemic began. Of those total cases, 77,167 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the NHC.

Much of China is returning to normal life. Hubei province -- ground zero for the pandemic -- and many other parts of the country have been under lockdown and movement restrictions for three months, but curbs designed to stop the spread of the virus are beginning to loosen as the perceived level of threat subsides.

Tomorrow, the lockdown on Wuhan, the city at the epicenter of the outbreak, will be lifted -- a significant milestone in its battle against the deadly virus.
Starting tomorrow, people will be allowed to leave Wuhan and Hubei if they have a green QR code on their mobile phones, which the provincial government has distributed as an indicator of people's health status.

China has ended its lockdown of Wuhan, the original epicenter of the coronavirus crisis, as the city reemerges from a deadly outbreak that is now raging across the globe.

But even as Wuhan reopens its borders after 76 days, some restrictions within the city will remain in place, and officials warn that the threat of further infections remains far from over.

The metropolis of 11 million, where the coronavirus was first detected in December, had been sealed off from the outside world since January 23 in an unprecedented effort to contain the outbreak.

What this means for Wuhan: On Wednesday, healthy residents and visitors will finally be allowed to leave Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province, with trains and flights resumed and highway entrances reopened.

Wuhan's railway authority estimated more than 55,000 passengers will leave Wuhan by train Wednesday, with about 40% bound for the Pearl River Delta region, a major manufacturing hub in China, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

What this means for China: The easing of travel restrictions on Wuhan is the latest milestone in China's fight against Covid-19. The country reported nearly zero new local infections in recent weeks, leading to similar restrictive measures being lifted for other parts of Hubei province late last month.

Luo Ping, an epidemic control official in Wuhan, told CCTV Sunday that the lifting of the lockdown marks a "full restart" of the city's economic and social activities from their previous "suspension." But he warned the city faces an arduous task preventing imported cases and a recurrence of local infections.
"After work and production resumed, the movement of people increased and so did the risk of cross-infections from mass gatherings. Some residents have dropped their guard and don't wear masks when they go on the streets," he told the broadcaster.
"The reopening of Wuhan does not mean the all-clear, neither does it mean a relaxing of epidemic prevention and control measures (within the city)," he said.

China reports more than 100 new cases of coronavirus for first time in a month
From Eric Cheung in Hong Kong

China's National Health Commission announced 108 new cases of the novel coronavirus this morning, the highest number in at least a month.

The vast majority of the new infections were imported, with 98 of those diagnosed bringing the virus with them from overseas.

But there were also 10 locally transmitted cases -- seven in the northeastern Heilongjiang province, and three in Guangdong province in the south of the country.
Despite being the original epicenter for the coronavirus pandemic, China has seen a dramatic reduction in cases over the past month and has recently begun to remove strict lockdown provisions across the country.

But officials are now concerned about a second wave of infections brought into China from overseas.

The total number of cases reported officially in the country is now 82,160, with 3,341 deaths.
