China reports 3 new cases of coronavirus

China reported three new cases of the novel coronavirus and no new deaths on Sunday, the National Health Commission announced today.

The three cases include two imported from overseas and one local infection from Heilongjiang, China's northernmost province that borders Russia.

There has been growing concern over cases coming into China from Russia, amid fears they could spark a new outbreak in the north as most of the country returns to normal.

In addition, 25 new asymptomatic cases were also reported. Some 974 asymptomatic patients are still under medical observation around the country. China previously did not include those patients not showing symptoms in some of its tallies.

The total number of confirmed cases to date is 82,830, the NHC said.

Of those confirmed cases, 77,474 have recovered and been discharged.

The country's official death toll stands at 4,633.

China reported 22 new cases of novel coronavirus and no new deaths on Tuesday, according to the National Health Commission.

The new infections include 21 imported cases and one local case from Guangdong province, which borders Hong Kong and Macau in southeast China.

In addition to the new cases, 26 asymptomatic cases were also reported. Some 993 asymptomatic patients remain under medical observation around the country.

China previously did not include those patients not showing symptoms in some of its tallies.

The total number of confirmed cases to date is 82,858, the NHC said.

Of those confirmed cases, 77,578 patients have recovered and been discharged.

The country's official death toll stands at 4,633.

The city of Wuhan, the original epicenter of the coronavirus crisis, on Sunday reported its first new coronavirus case since April 3, according to local health officials.

The patient is currently in a critical condition, and his wife has also tested positive and was reported as an asymptomatic case. The patient lives in a neighborhood that has recorded 20 confirmed cases overall.

The new case is lined to "past community infection," according to the Wuhan Health Commission, citing medical experts. Five patients from the community showing no symptoms, including the new case's wife, have been sent to hospitals for observation. China's national and local health commissions do not include asymptomatic cases in their confirmed case counts.

China reopened Wuhan’s borders after a 76-day lockdown on April 8. As of Saturday, 50,334 total cases have been confirmed in the city, according to the commission.

New coronavirus clusters emerge in northeast China and fresh cases identified in Wuhan

Authorities in mainland China reported 17 new novel coronavirus cases inside the country today, including 10 that were locally transmitted.

The country's National Health Commission (NHC) said that five of the new local transmissions were reported in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province in central China considered ground zero for the global pandemic.

Wuhan reported its first new case in more than a month yesterday, raising concerns that a second wave of cases could be coming. The city's Dongxihu district was classified as being at a medium risk level as of Sunday afternoon, while other areas of Wuhan remain low risk.

Troubling signs in the northeast: Fresh lockdown measures were announced for the city of Shulan in China’s northeastern Jilin province over the weekend after 11 coronavirus cases were reported there yesterday.

A statement released by Jilin’s provincial health commission on Sunday said Shulan is currently under lockdown since Saturday, with public services and recreation venues shut down and only takeaway services allowed for restaurants.

Gatherings are banned and only one member from each household is allowed to go out to collect daily necessities. The statement did not say how long the lockdown measures would last.

The epidemic risk level in Shulan has been changed to “high," the top level on China's scale.

Total cases: The NHC said it has now identified 82,918 Covid-19 patients. Right now, there are 780 asymptomatic patients under medical observation, 12 of which are new cases. A total of 78,144 coronavirus patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals. More than 4,600 have died.
