The City wishes residents a joyful Canada Day. But remember: we are still in the middle of a pandemic. To celebrate our country, perhaps the most patriotic thing we can do is continue the downward trend of COVID-19 cases in Canada’s capital.

Like wearing masks.

There are no Canada Day events planned on Parliament Hill or Major's Hill Park this year. We encourage you to celebrate the holiday in your neighbourhood instead.

However you celebrate Canada Day, please remember to follow guidelines set by the Province of Ontario and Ottawa Public Health about masks, physical distancing and gatherings.

Did we mention you should wear a mask?

Wearing a mask will help protect others. Remember: My mask protects you. Your mask protects me.

If you are able, please wear a mask if you cannot remain physically distant. Sometimes we don’t realize until it’s too late that we should have brought a mask. It’s a good idea to get in the habit of keeping one nearby at all times. In your pocket. In your purse. In your car.

Even when it’s hot outside, and wearing a mask can be uncomfortable, it is still a small sacrifice if it means saving lives.
