Like many events in 2020, Franco-Ontarian Day will be a little different. This year’s celebration will be virtual, but we hope you can take part and wear the emblematic colours white and green!
The City is partnering with l’Association des communautés francophones d'Ottawa (ACFO) to produce a video footage for the Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario’s special webcast celebrating Franco-Ontarian Day on Friday, September 25. The broadcast will include flag raisings and best wishes from communities across Ontario. Tune in and keep an eye out for us!
This year marks the 45th anniversary of the Franco-Ontarian Flag. The flag was created in 1975 by history professor Gaétan Gervais and first-year political science student Michel Dupuis, both from Laurentian University. It was officially recognized as the emblem of the Franco-Ontarian community in the Franco-Ontarian Emblem Act in 2001.
Franco-Ontarian Day, officially declared in 2010 by the Province, recognizes the contribution of Ontario's Francophone community to the cultural, historical, social, economic and political life of the province.
