Voting Day for the 2020 Cumberland By-election will take place on Monday, October 5, from 10 am until 8 pm.
Voting places will offer anywhere voting, meaning that electors can vote at any voting place regardless of their address. Electors may cast a ballot at any of the following locations on Voting Day:
Voting places are also listed on Voter Notification letters and can be found using the Where Do I Vote? tool on ottawa.ca/vote.
Eligible electors should bring an acceptable piece of identification with their name and qualifying Ottawa address when they vote.
Voting by Proxy
If you feel sick, have symptoms of COVID-19, are self-isolating, or if you have travelled in the last 14 days, please stay home. You can arrange to have someone vote for you by proxy.
A proxy is someone that can go to the voting place and cast a ballot on your behalf. This person must be an eligible elector and should be someone you trust to mark the ballot the way you have instructed them to.
A proxy representing one family member can also be a proxy for additional family members. A family member refers to a spouse, sibling, parent, child, grandparent or grandchild. A proxy appointed for a person who is not a family member can act as the proxy for this one person only. A person cannot be appointed as a proxy for a non-family member and a family member at the same time.
You can appoint a voting proxy until Monday, October 5. Fill out an Appointment for Voting Proxy (Form 3) with your chosen proxy. The individual that has been appointed must take the completed forms to the Elections Office or to any open Client Service Centre, by appointment only, to have them certified by City staff. The individual that has been appointed can also bring the completed forms to a voting place and have it certified on Voting Day, during voting hours.
If on Voting Day, you feel sick or are self-isolating and you have not already appointed a proxy, please stay home and contact the Elections Office by phone at 613-580-2660. A staff member will be available to assist you with voting by proxy.
Your proxy will be required to present proof of their identity. Please refer to the Voter Identification section of ottawa.ca/vote for a list of documents that may be presented as identification.
Special Mail-in Ballot Deadline
Electors who applied to receive a special mail-in ballot are reminded that completed special ballots must be received at the Elections Office or the Orleans Client Service Centre by October 5 at 4:30 pm. Special ballots received after the deadline will not be counted.
