The respite centre at Tom Brown Arena will be kept open through the holidays and on weekends in response to strong demand for services.

From December 21 to January 3 the Tom Brown respite centre, at 141 Bayview Road, will be open between 9:30 am and 4 pm, providing showers, a place to warm up and get some food for people who are in need. Even on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, the centre will be open, though no showers will be available just on those two days.

There will be a slightly reduced service level at the City’s two other respite centres.

  • At the Bernard Grandmaître respite centre, at 309 McArthur Road, full service will be operated from December 21 to December 24, and from December 28 to December 31, daily from 9:30 am to 4 pm. No showers will be available on December 28 and the centre will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
  • At St. Paul’s Eastern United Church respite centre, at 473 Cumberland Street, full service will be operated from December 21 to December 24, and from December 28 to December 31, daily from 9:30 am to 4 pm. The St. Paul’s centre will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The respite centres are one of many services being offered by the City of Ottawa through the Human Needs Task Force, under which the City is working with partner community organizations to meet the social needs of residents affected by COVID-19.
