Carmakers canceled many chip orders during the early pandemic in early 2020. Thanks, WFH. As a result, semiconductor manufacturers shifted their capacity to other industries. Even now carmakers have struggled to normalize their supply chain fully. That is why the new vehicles roll out of their plant slowly, which could not meet the consumer demand.
Think about the bigger " deglobalization" picture, from the US policies of decoupling, re-shore/friend shore to derisking now, those VIPs or media who dare talk about "could not decouple from China" now after Jenet Yellin's remark that "decoupling will be disastrous for both countries" in April 2023.
It is not as easy and simple as selling your house and moving to another place. Each industry has its supply chain-- ecosystem. Can Apple move out of China? They can, but it won't be overnight. Apple has over 100 suppliers in China. let's see how long it takes to completely move them out of China or rebuild them in India, and how much it costs.
