Feature story

Between April 21 and June 1, in preparation for this fall’s Rural Summit, workshops were held in each of Ottawa’s five rural wards.

  • Ward 1
    Orléans East-Cumberland
  • Ward 5
    West Carleton-March
  • Ward 19
    Orléans South-Navan
  • Ward 20
    Osgoode
  • Ward 21
    Rideau-Jock

Over 350 residents came out to give us their perspectives and talk about some of the challenges and concerns they have living in and doing business in the rural part of Ottawa.

Summaries of their comments have been collected into As We Heard It reports. There is one report for each ward. You can see them all now on engage.ottawa.

Topics vary slightly from ward to ward, but overall, the subjects fell into similar categories such as:

  • Roads and traffic
  • Planning and housing
  • Agriculture
  • Environment
  • Rural commerce
  • Emergency services
  • Community safety

These comments will be used to guide discussion at the Rural Summit, planned for Fall 2024. Details on the Rural Summit will be posted on engage.ottawa.ca when they become available.

Residents are encouraged to continue sharing comments about rural affairs and the Rural Summit at pop-up engagements throughout rural Ottawa this summer and by completing our survey which is open until August 30.
