The flags at Ben Franklin Place (101 Centrepointe Drive) will be lowered to half-mast from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, October 13 in honour of the late Margaret “Toddy” Kehoe, who passed away on February 8, 2024.
Toddy Kehoe was an accomplished politician, philanthropist and community activist. She served as an alderman on Ottawa City Council, representing Carleton Ward (now College Ward) from 1975 to 1985.
She championed many causes during her career, but foremost was the advancement and empowerment of women and people with disabilities. In the 1960s, she founded the Brighthope School, a school in Ottawa for special needs children. As a politician, she opened the first Ottawa Office of Women's Issues, led the commissioning of a statue of Terry Fox which is now located on Parliament Hill and helped provide low-income housing for single mothers.
Toddy Kehoe was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement award at the YMCA Women of Distinction Awards in 2011.
A private celebration of life will take place on Sunday, October 13 from 12 to 2 pm.
