This looks a lot like my mom's home village, which is located on the mountains bordering Hubei & Sichuan.

My cousins had to walk 10 kilometers one way to their school. One of my cousins fell from the tractor that was used to transport the children to and from the school (run by a local volunteer), hit her head on the rock and died instantly, she was only 15 years old when that happened.
