Network Services - Internet Data Centre Technician - Overnights
Responsibilities:
Magma Communications Ltd. is looking for an Internet Data Center Technician to work directly with our clients and technical teams to maintain and administer equipment in our data center. Successful candidates will need to be available to work a shift schedule from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Sunday through Tuesday and alternating Wednesdays. Candidates will also need to be available 24/7 carrying a cell phone or pager for on-call duties in rotation.
Daily responsibilities include installing, configuring and maintaining Cisco catalyst 3500 switches, working with corporate teams and network/system administrators on collocation setups and installs. Coordinate new device installations; maintain a clean and organized work area (including the server room, etc.), ensure there are enough Ethernet patch cables, power cables, etc. on hand, perform emergency cabling and patch cables and maintain all server room infrastructure (cabinets, shelving, etc.).
This position is also responsible for maintaining security of the facility and closely following all procedures and processes in place when working with clients and performing client escorts to ensure Exceptional customer service is delivered. Client escorts are frequent and the IDC Technician is responsible for ensuring they have access to their specific equipment and for assigning IP space and DNS set-ups for new equipment/clients.
Weekly duties include testing and powering up the generator, performing weekly power system audits, update data center procedures, working on the data enter disaster recovery plan (keeping it up to date) and assisting in other projects as assigned.
Requirements:
* Working knowledge of IP networking
* Basic knowledge of network wiring
* Demonstrated ability to give Exceptional customer service in a technical environment
* Completion of high school diploma (or equivalent) is required
* Working knowledge of flowchart, spreadsheet, word processing and presentation software
* Basic knowledge of Windows operating environment
* Basic knowledge of KVM systems
* Ability to work shift work and be on-call (24/7)
* Completion of community college courses or programs in a related technical field would be an asset
