My 2001 Civic Malfunction light is on. The manual says I should check the fuel tank cap and wait for 3 days. I found it was loosed and tightened it. But the light is still on now. I also scan the code, it is P1456, some kind of emmision control problem.

I checked that someone said their code for this kind of problem is P1457.

Anyone can help me with this? Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!

1456就是油箱盖松了,也可能是上次那个1457的问题,
不用怕,先开几天,如果好几天灯还亮着,
找个人给你灭了就行了。

DTC P1456 means that your vehicle is failing to contain/hold the gas vapors in the gas tank.

Honda lists the following as possible causes for a DTC P1456: Fuel filler cap, vacuum connection, fuel tank, fuel tank pressure sensor, evaporative bypass solenoid, evaporative two way valve, evaporative control canister vent shut valve, evaporative control canister and evaporative purge control solenoid.

THANKS for the advice!!!!

I am pretty sure now that it is the tank cap.

比较老的车,把油箱盖拧紧就行了,
比较新的车,油箱盖拧紧后,再转,

达,达,达,3声才算好。

The light's off now

1457Just like the manual says, it went off after 3 days. I think it is a design flaw of all Honda cars, they should not use the malfunction light for such minor issue. They can use some other reminder light instead e.g. something like the "door is not closed" light.

So thanks all of these fellows that gave me advice. And my advice for this is:

1. Don't be panic.
2. Look at the explanation in your Honda Manual. Honda has installed this kind of sensor in all of their cars. I have a new CRV, and the new manual says the same.
3. Tighten the fuel tank cap every time.
4. If you wanna check what the signal means, go to Auto Zone, they can scan the car computer for free, normally the code for this problem will be either P1456 or P1457.
5. If you get this code, then you are possibly OK, just drive 3 days and see what will happen, if it does not go off, go to the dealer and ask them to erase the code for you.
