The majority of Canadian dislike the current U.S government. I am no exception. But that doesn't mean he got elected is not democratic. He got the majority of the vote. I would rather think of it as the problem of Capitalism and Self-interested.
Capitalism is far from perfect. That's why the concept of welfair state comes in. It sort of help to even the distribution and to stablize the capitalism countries. Money and self-interest do help to propoganda and influence people's thinking.
And besides, who said U.S is the perfect example of democracy??? It is debatable whether it's more democratic to elect a president based on electoral colleges instead of popular votes. But it's fair to say, it's relatively and comparatively democratic.
