Exhaust--converter with flex pipe

My 1998 Camery car's engine has bigger noise. I went to garage to check. They told me the exhaust has problem and I need to change converter with flex pipe.The price is above $500.
If I don't change it, does it influence the car? If only the noise is bigger, I don't want to pay for it.

of course u have to change flex pipe/connector at least

It's not good to your engine besides the lousy noise.

I got my front pipe replaced a while ago, the flex pipe is part of the front pipe in my car, it took me around $200.

the catalytic converter is an EXPENSIVE part, at $500, you should count youself lucky.
