If you use Bell's more expensive one which doesn't require you to install a VoIP box at home, then it works basically same as normal phone line.
Otherwise, you have to know that when your internet is down, your phone will be down. If you have power outage, don't expect to make any phone call. When you call 911, for most VoIP, you will have to tell the operator your exact physical address. And if you have security alarm that is connected to monitoring centre, it won't work.
