Just a little opinion from a Quebecer

As a Quebecer, I don't want to be ruled by the decendents of the British. Alot of British moved from Britain to Canada. Alot of others are Tories who fled the US after the revolutionary war. In fact, they made a political party called the Tories. For those of you who don't know, Tories are British loyalists who fought against the thirteen colonies and killed some 4,435 in the process when the Colonies only had 2.5 million citizens. That would be the equivalent today of about 450,000 Americans being killed by the "Tories" who fled to Canada after the war.
And besides, Canada isn't even wasn't completely seperated from Britain till 1982. Canada didn't have it's own flag until 1965. Even after the "patriation" of the constitution in 1982, a British woman residing in Britain(the Queen) remained the legal head of state of a supposedly independent Canada.
Brian Mulroney even asked this foreign woman to intervene in Canada's Senate to appoint Conservatives to break a deadlock with Liberals left over from a prior government ― which she did. If English Canadians should suggest that the Britishness of Ms. Windsor is irrelevant to her role as "Queen of Canada", ask them how they would feel if instead of the Queen of England the monarch of Canada were the President of the United States. Would such a monarch be seen as genuinely Canadian? Would a Canada that proclaimed its faithfulness to such a monarch be seen as truly independent? Of course not, to both questions.
In the same way, would English Canadians be comfortable with the President of France serving as monarch of Canada? Canada did after all start as a French colony, and its name comes from the French version of an Algonquian word, not directly from Algonquian. Reserving the honor of Canadian head of state to the head of state of the country that first brought European civilization to Canada (France, not Britain) would merely be a recognition of history and tradition, wouldn't it, in the same way as the retention of "The British Connection" is merely a grateful nod to history and tradition. Or would it?
Why not have a member of the French royal family serve as King or Queen of Canada? How would that be any more objectionable than having the Queen of England serve as Queen of Canada? Well, you see, that would offend the English-speaking majority. Never mind that having a British monarch offends the French-speaking minority. They're not important in the English-Canadian view.
Until 1982, any changes to the British North America act had to be made by the British Parliament. Flags in Ontario, BC,Newfoundland still have the Union Jack in it.(Newfoundlands isn't exactly a Union Jack, but if you look closely You can make out the pattern). British Columbia still calls itself British.
My point is that just like the Americans, a lot of Quebecers don't want to ruled by the British. English Canada to Quebec, what Britain was to the thirteen colonies.
How is Quebec wanting to separating from Canada any different than the US wanting to leave Britain?

还好意思说呢
谁叫他们的祖先法国人打不过人家英国人?他们的祖先宁愿要南美的一个小岛也不要Quebec。
人家美国的独立是打回来的。。。拜托,WWII法国还要人家英国救呢。
How is that for a little history:):D

well, on a different vain, the ways the French treated the natives were more humane than the English though. And I don't really look down the French on their surrending to the German, after all, saving lifes is more important than who rule the country.

Of course not, supporting Québec independence is the same as supporting the independence of Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang.
