I just tried charcoal grill last weekend. Yes, the starter liquid will help a lot and make the grill ready in a second. But, it requires great caution when handling the liquid.
As to concern of cancer, Korean people have grill so often and they don't have higher incidence of cancer than others. Excessive worry can cause cancer too. Other type of food can cause even nastier cancer---Vegetables which is less expensive may be less organic and contains more pesticide; dried bean curd product looks golden and shinny might have more artificial color in it; flavoured roasted shelled peanuts may get mold; discount frozen sea food/fish may have higher-than-limit mercury or other heavy metal in it; bagged rice noodle/instant noodle and boxed pastry may have high amount of preservatives and color in them----they could be more risky than grilled food and but consumed more by people.
