Ministry of Transportation is looking for Surveyors:

It is a 4 month contract. It starts July 31, 2006 and ends October 31, 2006. There is a possibility of extension.

There will be a 2 week training session at the beginning.

$10/hr for training - $14/hr for the remainder of the contract

Surveyors - 20 people

Surveyors are responsible for administering a computer-based questionnaire to sampled truck drivers at provincially controlled truck inspection stations and other roadside locations.

The Surveyor’s tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Survey truckers using a tablet computer;
- Check tablet functionality, date, and time and ensuring accuracy, each shift;
- Accurately enter the weights and measures for each truck;
- Safely flag traffic, mainly trucks;
- Maintain survey quality by sharing and using the best methods determined at each site;
- Follow on-site personnel and safety instructions;
- Communicate any issues/problems, as they arise, to Crew Chiefs;
- Support other crew activities, especially those of the Crew Chief including site setup/teardown;
- Contribute to a safe, co-operative and inclusive work environment;
- Maintain equipment/site in working order and ensure is proper care is taken to ensure full functionality;
- Some surveyors may be designated as backup drivers;
- As required, liaise with the TC Project Manager and other project stakeholders, as identified by TC, to support the successful completion of the Intercept Survey on site;

Machine, Tools, equipment: In the provision of services to TC, the Surveyor shall make use of the following equipment: Signal operation, fixed truck scales (weigh stations), tablet computers, measuring wheels.

General Requirements:

・Should be in possession of a valid driver’s license (in Ontario a class G allowing the driver to drive any car, van or small truck or combination of vehicle and towed vehicle up to 11,000 kg provided the towed vehicle is not over 4,600 kg or equivalent class in other provinces).

・Successful completion of a criminal record check (completed by the Contractor);

・In order to survey at border locations, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) requires security clearance at a minimum level of Enhanced Reliability;

Languages:

・ English/Conversational French

Education:

・ Successful completion of a High School diploma;

Experience:

・ Customer service experience such as retail, phone surveying, and telemarketing;
・ Extensive technical experience using Windows-based PC systems;
・ Experience working in a team environment;

Communication skills:

・ Possess ability to work in teams and appropriately deal with problems with others as they arise;
・ Possess ability to speak clearly and loudly;

Resource suitability
・ Punctual: Arrives on time for work, planned trips, and any other agreed to times;
・ Demonstrates maturity & responsibility;
・ Demonstrates awareness of surroundings
・ Conscientious of others and personal safety, especially around traffic
・ Possess ability to react appropriately to aggressive behavior or other dangerous situations
・ Possess ability to work with minimal direction
・ Personable: Resource must present themselves well and speak clearly
・ Strives towards improving speed and quality of work
・ Demonstrates commitment: Possesses the desire and ability to act in the Surveyor capacity until the task is completed;

Computer skills:

・ Possess strong computer skills and knowledge of using Windows applications

In addition to meeting the above minimum resource requirements, Surveyor resources that possess some education at a post-secondary level and/or possess experience with working out-of-doors and/or possess experience in the transportation sector will be given preference.
