However, that is not the end of it. Both the Provincial and Federal governments agreed to give $200 Million each to the project subject to the completion of ridership and cost benefit studies. Those studies have been completed but they do not present a very favourable picture for the light rail project. Fewer than 5,000 new riders would be attracted to public transit by this line and it seems that barely 100 cars per peak hour would be removed from our roads. While it seems that the Provincial Government will take the position that the studies' results are Ottawa's business there is some hope that the Federal Government will take a more serious look at these results and pull back their money. If you would like to see the light rail project stopped contact your federal and provincial representatives. They now hold the key.
