Job-title: Social Worker (Family services)
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work
Experience and Knowledge
1. In-depth understanding of Chinese family dynamics and immigrant adjustment issues.
2. Knowledge of community social and health resources in Ottawa.
3. Experience in working with professionals in social and health service fields
4. Knowledge of child welfare and family laws, family court system.
5. Knowledge of client-centred and client-directed practice theories and practice
6. Knowledge of, and experience in, working with people with, mental illness issues.
7. Knowledge of ethical issues in social work practice is essential
Personal Suitability
1. Ability to communicate and empathize with clients seeking assistance.
2. Ability to work independently in a non-structured environment.
3. Ability to assess client’s needs and intervene in crisis situations.
4. Demonstrate a client-centre and client-directed philosophy and practice.
5. Strong advocacy skills on behalf of clients in need of services.
6. Openness to ongoing learning and professional self-development.
Language
1. Ability to work in English and Chinese is required.
2. Ability to speak Cantonese and Mandarin fluently is essential
Transportation
1. Use of a vehicle is essential.
