It depends on how good you are. generally, there are 100 students admitted
every year including 30 Ph.Ds and 70 Masters. The applicants this year is more
than 5000.

100 is the number of electronics department only?
Are there many applicants interested in VLSI?

What decides competitiveness of application?GPA? The university you went before? working experience ? reference letter?Toefl score?

software:letter, work experience

In addition, if you are ever fortunate enough to have undergraduate research experience in the area/group you are applying for (e.g. VLSI), you are already one step ahead of the majority and make sure you EMPHASIZE EMPHASIZE EMPHASIZE that in your application (make it 20 pt font or something ).

Also, I would strongly recommend checking out all the current research/research groups on the EE department website, especially those in your interested area. Read every word and try to tailor your application towards exactly what they want.

There're many students enrolled into program without thesis supervisor in Computer science these two years. I don't know how about Electronics.
