A teenager has been charged with various offences after a bizarre attack on a man who had posted an advertisement on Craigslist to sell his car.
Yeon Chul Peter Lee, 18, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of unlawful confinement and three counts of theft over $5,000, Vancouver police said Thursday.
Lee, a Vancouver resident, has been remanded in custody until his next court date on Friday, Const. Jana McGuinness said.
On Tuesday morning, the 34-year-old victim went to a potential buyer's downtown apartment in the 1300 block of Barclay Street to talk about selling his car.
During their discussions, Lee allegedly "exploded into a violent rage" and struck the victim over the head with a frying pan, McGuinness said.
The victim told police he was choked when he tried to call 911. He was also slashed in the face, head and chest.
"[The suspect] then offered to drive the victim to a medical clinic where he dropped him off before driving away in the victim's car," she said.
"He was arrested five hours later when he returned to his apartment where police were waiting for him."
The victim, who has not been identified, is recovering at home after being treated in hospital.
