9尺的好处就是房子看起来更宽敞、气派,不太压抑。
缺点是抗震能力至少下降了50% (本人观点)。
建议大家到建筑工地去多看看。
因为现在的建筑材料基本都是基于8尺标准的,为了达到9尺就在8尺顶上
放上了一尺的横向木材,然后用一圈钉子与下面连起来,然后上面就是隔层结构。
如此往复。这(1,2 或3)个一尺的部位将是力学上的弱点,抗扭曲及横向震动的能力非常弱。

大家去现场看看8尺和9尺两种在建的房子,会发现不同的。
也许你们是对的,但我曾经见过两栋建筑与上述照片明显不同(加高的部分是一圈独立的木材)。
现在这两栋已完工,无法拍照了。只能以后看到类似结构取得照片再来讨论了。
I think it might depend on which builder, which site and which year you're looking into.
I saw minto use machine-joined 2x4 studs (not a whole solid wood, but lots of small pieces of wood glued together) in their constructions in barrheaven area. those studs are shaky when you just push a little bit on them. but my house is a minto built in year 1993, all solid wood, good materials.
That is a totally different thing as what LZ were talking about.
Minto used those kind of studs for a short period in late 2007 to 2008 (the first year or so after they changed to the current models).
Those lumber were made in the manufactures, they suposed to have same strength (or stronger) as the real one-piece wood (if they never got wet). However, the house are built the exact same manner for 8' hight and 9' hight house.
