买新房子，大家一般都做哪些upgrade？

哪个builder,哪些upgrade，什么价格？

1st floor carpet -> site-finish hardwood floor, don't remember what price, too long ago.
and I'd upgrade the stairs to hardwood floor, too.
if I had a choice, I'd add more window(s) on one of the walls.
and for sure to enlarge basement window.

My rule of thumb is to pick the stuff that's hard to do afterwards, and the stuff you will be using a lot right from the beginning.

加大basement的窗子，rough in bathroom，如果不finish basement是不是就不重要了？还是要考虑到以后卖房子？

大家都说升级以后做不了的。但是，忽然在想，如果让builder做corian台面，跟请人做这个，花费会差多少呢？做木地板，差别会有多大？木楼梯？

We wish we did! But it was not 好几千 but less than $2K.

If we knew it would give us the extra storage space (under the porch), we would have bit the bullet ... too late now! :-(
