谁能解释一下dpi?

相机的dpi设置是72，而且是不能改的。PS后的照片dpi倒可以提高。网上大都说dpi和resolution没关系，但好像print大相片时对dpi还是有要求的。相机的manual上就没有提dpi。

DPI和resolution的关系大概可以想成， 同样HD分辨率的显示器 (1920x1080)
20寸的DPI就比24寸的要高
大概可以想成 像素数 除以 尺寸

dpi of 72是为monitor display 而设置的。网上好多人都问过这个问题：怎样才能change相机的default dpi value of 72, since most of people have the impression that higher dpi value means higher resolution. If this is the case, why can't the camera default dpi be set at a higher value 'cause they have nothing to lose?
