I'll add my 2 cents for what's worth.
I would hack that SOB to death without hesitation if I were the wife and damn the consequence. Legally though I would be committing a murder. Taking away a life when the SOB is defenseless is always a murder in my book.
It is important to ask if the victim was really defenseless. That's point number 1.
It is also very important to understand the emotional state of the accused during the crime. Did she hack the victim without pause? Or did she stop and think and hack him some more? Deliberation of any kind constitutes murder. That's point number 2.
Without due knowledge of the court proceedings, I would say 'manslaughter' is more apt than 'aggravated assault'. But then the resultant sentence to me is very appropriate.
(I apologize once again in writing in English. It takes me 5 minutes to do in English but 1/2 hour to type it in Chinese.
