精华 渥太华华人华侨各界为中国医护人员募捐倡议书

我们的祖国正遭遇前所未遇的困难。SARS病毒目前在中国大陆肆虐横行，已发现数千病例，并有上百人死于SARS。中国人口密集，医疗卫生条件有限，在当前SARS的发病机理及有效治疗手段仍不明了的情况下，这场与SARS的斗争将是长期而艰巨的。现在国内形势相当严峻，各地各部门都全力地投入了这场对病毒的战争，我们身在海外，对国内的人民的焦虑和担忧也感同身受.

目前疫情正向全中国扩散，开始是南方的门户广州，现在是首都北京正在承受巨大的压力。无数的医务工作人员正在和SARS战斗的最前线，他们肩负起抗击SARS的使命，往往是有家难回，和病人们一起在隔离区，他们中的许多人已经病倒，感染甚至献身。我们不能不为他们的牺牲精神而感动。

中国是这场全球抗SARS的第一主战场，部分国家和地区已经控制了疫情。中国抗SARS战斗的形势直接影响全人类抗SARS战斗的成败。我们每个炎黄子孙都有义务投身于这场危害人类健康的斗争。

海外华人华侨与祖国人民心连心，在当前的紧要关头，我们理当表示我们的同情和关心。在此，我们呼吁: 让我们用我们的绵薄之力，为我们的亲人朋友和战斗在抗疫前线的医护人员做点贡献。我们倡议给奋战在北京疫区的医护人员捐款，购买防护用品（如优质口罩和防护服等）。

我们加拿大首都地区的各华人社团及各界华人华侨组成抗SARS各界联合会，将在最近的数周，通过各种方式募捐。我们将在近期通过电影义演，在OTTAWA设立募捐箱等方式，筹集款项。（具体安排将在“COMEFROMCHINA网站”，“中华导报”，“健康时报”登出）。
如果捐赠的是支票，请在收款人处写明: “ZHENG ANDERSON IN TRUST” (王政律师事务所将免费为本次活动提供信托帐号) 。 支票的MEMO请写: “ OTTAWA SARS DONATION FOR CHINA” 。现金捐赠将转为支票。为了方便管理，请将支票和现金交给本次募捐工作人员。工作人员将所收款项登记在册，并在网上公布捐赠进展。部分愿意邮寄的，请将支票寄往:

海子锅，俺有2个问题，如果俺要捐钱，为了方便管理，请将支票和现金交给本次募捐工作人员这里说的工作人员是指的是下面那3位本次募捐联络小组成员吗？有没有固定的捐款地点？第2个问题是关于善款的用途，我们捐的钱是直接汇给国内呢还是在这边买了防护用品寄过去？我觉得国内现在急需的不是钱而是防护用品。

Strongly agree with the comments. Should specify where the donation will go, to China Red-Cross, or Canadian Red-cross, or some other venue? And how the fund will be used? To buy medical equipment, or aiding further research on a SARS vaccine? Don't mean to be cynical, but there has been precedent that the donated funds were misappropriated.

Thanks for organizing the donation.

Some of my friends are doctors in Beijing. They really need good quality masks and goggles (protection from splash and UV). So I think it is better to get those safty products for them than send money only.

I heard that some organizations in silicon valley are also collecting donations for the N95 masks. And Chinese Consulate in San Francisco has promised to help them send back the masks for free. And CSSA in Columbia U (New York)also send 5000 masks with the help of the Chinese Consulate in New York. So maybe it is also worth to contact the Chinese embassy here.

In term of the masks,
N95 8210: good, without valve, hard margin
8511: better, with valve (help in breathing), hard margin
9211: best, with valve, soft margin, foldable
8271: superior, water- and oil-resistant, much more expensive
BTW, N95 mask is very uncomfortable. It's only recommended to those who have direct contact with SARS patients, such as doctors, nurses and family members who take care of the patients. For general public, cotton and surgical masks are good enough.
Some people here are looking for sending N95 masks back to mainland, Hong Kong, or Taiwan for their families. I have no objection over their actions. But when the masks are short of supply, I think priority should be given to health care workers who are directly fighting SARS.

As for how to get the stuff as many as possible, I think there should be people here working in biomedical research institute and their lab may routingly order from certain biotech company such as VWR, fisher etc. Maybe they could order from these companies directly instead of buying from the market. This way we may get better deal. Anyway, these are just some informations I gathered and hope it will be useful.
