Press Release Regarding 2.18 Hijab Hoax Rally at Parliament Hill

A large group of Chinese Canadians held a rally at Parliament Hill on Sunday February 18, 2018. More than 1000 people from the Chinese Community and other groups attended the events. However, the CBC News labeled all attendants as far-right, and a reporter Shaamini Yogaretna, from the Ottawa Citizen twisted the rally as anti-immigration in her article

Given this offensive slander, we feel it is important to restate our position, which is stated in our open letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau:

1. Reinvestigate Hijab Hoax, release more details and report the truth to Canadian

2. Prime Minister must apologize for his irresponsible comments

3. All ethnic groups are entitled for equal respect

We truly do not understand why the CBC and the Ottawa Citizen twisted our event in such a disingenuous way. We also would like to thank the organization La Meute for coming all the way to support our movement. Most of its members are Canadian Veterans, who have been treated unfairly by the Trudeau Government. Last summer, they held a protest against the Liberal Government for allowing refugees to cross the Canadian border illegally into Quebec.

According to the latest news, the Liberal Government has approved a huge financial bailout for many media companies (including the CBC and the Ottawa Citizen). We would like them to reveal the actual amounts they are receiving. Maybe this could explain why both covered our rally in a such ridiculous way.

鉴于目前事态的发展，一些不认同此次抗争活动的华人认为把加拿大华裔与极右翼势力联系起来是有严重问题的，加拿大东部和西部的一些华裔青年组成了“华裔多元文化观察小组”，表达了华人社区内部就“头巾事件”不同的想法，并与中英文媒体取得联系。以下是他们的中文版声明：

华裔多元文化关注小组声明：我们也是加拿大华人，我们不是极端右翼！

背景：近日一些华人就“头巾事件”组织起了几次抗议活动，并且在2月18日的系列活动与极右翼和反移民组织如Storm Alliance和La Meute等一起抗议。多家媒体报道了“加拿大华人”与极右翼团体一起要求总理道歉的新闻，本小组一直关注此事，并且希望发表以下声明：

1）本小组尊重所有人的言论自由和街头抗议的基本权利。但不支持这一系列抗议活动的立场，原因有二。 其一，未成年撒谎是错误的，但是家长已经道歉。事情应该就此结束。 其二，加拿大总理以及两大反对党党领（包括保守党和新民主党）最初的谴责推特是针对暴力行为本身而非亚裔。 整个抗议的立论基础过于牵强。

2）此次参与所谓头巾抗议活动的华人只能代表他们个人的行为，对整个华人社区和亚裔社区不具有代表性。本小组的成员多数为加拿大第一代华人移民，作为加拿大华人我们不愿意把自己热爱的社区与任何极端政治组织（包括白人至上组织，反移民组织和宗教极端恐怖主义）联系在一起。我们同时也相信全加拿大近200万华裔公民和永久居民中，也有很多人与我们的想法接近。

3）根据我们的初步了解，参与者多为华裔第一代移民中的中老年人士。他们由于语言和文化障碍等因素，长期对加拿大社会新闻不能有全面，客观，综合的认知。他们得到的很多信息是有翻译错误和内容残缺的。一些人可能是被个别人士愚弄，煽动参与所谓的抗议活动。希望社会关注新移民融入加拿大的信息渠道障碍和文化冲击等问题。

4）希望加拿大各族裔加强沟通。我们彼此都可能有偏见和意识形态上差别，但族群与族群之间最基本的尊重是加拿大的核心价值。我们相信沟通可以消弭矛盾。

先挑个语法上的小错： entitled to 不是 for
另外，感觉这封信的内容还有值得商榷之处。个人感觉公民报的报道确实有问题，但CBC的报道难以抓到其把柄--La Meute定义为极右不是此次CBC所为，而是早有定论，所以CBC这样写有其理由。
