Male foreign student, 24, dead after Oshawa crash, 1 in custody
A Durham region man is facing multiple charges after the early morning crash

A male foreign student, 24, is dead after a crash in Oshawa early Wednesday and a Durham region man, 36, is in custody, Durham police say.
One man is in police custody.
The student, who was driving a silver Honda Civic, was without vital signs when police arrived at the intersection of Taunton Road West and Thornton Road North in Oshawa after 2 a.m.
Officers performed CPR to try to save the student's life but he was pronounced dead later, according to Const. George Tudos, spokesperson for the Durham Regional Police Service. Police have notified his family.
Police said a man, 36, from Oshawa was arrested at the scene for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
That charge was later upgraded to impaired operation cause death, with additional charges of exceeding 80 mgs., causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. He was held for a bail hearing, police said.
"Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this collision," Tudos said at the scene.

The black Honda Civic that collided with the victim's car had an Uber sticker on its back window.
Police have not confirmed whether the man in custody is an Uber driver or whether he was working for Uber at the time that the fatal crash occurred.
"We would never disclose any occupation of a driver unless it has something to do with the investigation," Tudos said.
"At this point, I know that is information that has come to our investigators. We'll have to investigate and look into further."
Tudos said the black Honda Civic was travelling westbound on Taunton Road when it collided with the silver Honda Civic. He said it appears that the black Honda Civic rear-ended the silver Honda Civic.
Uber said the driver no longer had access to its app and his last trip for Uber was in August.
Kayla Whaling, spokesperson for Uber Media Relations, based in Austin, Texas, declined to say why and when his access was removed.

Staff Sgt. David McDougall, duty inspector for Durham Regional Police Service, said after the crash that it was too early to say whether high speed is a factor.
The intersection, which was closed as officers from Durham police's collision investigation unit reconstructed the crash, has been reopened.
