The city of Ottawa has imposed a ban on using outdoor water for three communities in Ottawa's south end, including Barrhaven, Riverside South and Manotick.
The ban will remain in effect until further notice, perhaps until late August.
Given the spring and summer demand on the water supply, the city said the ban is necessary.
Without putting the ban in place, there may not be enough pressure to provide drinking water or even enough to flush the toilet, the city said.
The loss of pressure was caused by breaks in a water main on Woodroffe Avenue in 2007, and last January.
The ban includes all lawn and garden watering, pool filling in private homes and car washing.
The city's splash pads and wading pools will not be filled during the period of the ban.
