WASHINGTON, DC -- Looking to expand its audience, Mercedes-Benz Canada is introducing a new entry-level model with a $33,900 starting price. The 2014 CLA 250 is a compact, front-drive, four-door sedan that looks like a coupe.
Arriving at Mercedes stores as you read this, the CLA 250 slots in between the $31,000 B250 hatchback and the $39,000 C250 sedan. The new CLA is based on the same platform used for the B250 and upcoming GLA compact CUV we will see next year. It shares its driveline with both and boasts more power than the C250 which will be completely redone after the 2014 model year.
The CLA’s striking design and slick profile can have you thinking it is a coupe. The sloping roofline, frameless side glass and low ride height of the sport suspension that is standard in Canada add to this impression. The front end features a prominent three-pointed star in the middle of the grill, a prominent front bumper with huge air intakes at each lower extremity and a hood with dual 'power' domes. The rear end has a spoiler built into the trailing edge of the trunk, twin pipes and a black insert below the bumper.
The interior is ultra-modern with a variety of trim treatments. The instruments in the twin tube cluster and five circular air vents sport chrome rings. Interior. To me the screen for the navigation system sticks up like an afterthought, but many younger people here liked the look seeing it as a stand-alone tablet. It is very functional and easy to see in all light conditions.
The upholstery is a man-made leather-like material with contrasting stitching. The front buckets are heavily bolstered as are the outboard positions of the rear seat.
There is a surprising amount of head and legroom in the rear seat despite the low roofline, which you have to duck under getting in and out. That low roof and narrow windows take a toll when it comes to visibility however, style does have a price in this respect. The trunk is spacious and has a flat floor but narrow load opening.
Mercedes has been careful to equip the new compact sedan with an impressive list of standard equipment at that base price – the usual array of power assists for windows, mirrors, locks etc. plus air conditioning, attention and collision-prevention assist, 17-inch alloy wheels, 115-cm infotainment display, 12-way power front seats, steering wheel shift paddles, tilt and telescoping steering column, cruise control, multifunction steering wheel, heated windshield washers and heated mirrors.
It is highly unlikely many base units will find their way into customer hands and being a German vehicle, the options add up quickly. A $2,800 Premium package will be popular as it includes auto dimming mirrors, panoramic sunroof (which steals 35 mm of headroom), power folding mirrors, dual zone automatic climate control rear-view camera and heated front seats. Shame on you Mercedes, the latter two should be standard!
A$1,600 Sport Package brings aluminum trim,18-in AMG wheels, summer performance tires, unique grill, upgraded brakes and distinct lower body cladding.
The CLA’s wheelbase is shorter than the current C-class sedan yet it is actually 38 mm longer overall. The first CLAs will be front-wheel-drive, again a legacy of the B250 which has not been sold in the United States. A 4Matic all-wheel-drive version will come along in calendar year 2014.
Built in Kecskemet, Hungary alongside the B250, the CLA has a 208-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. There is also a hot-rod version from the mad minds at AMG, with the world’s most powerful production four-cylinder engine and full-time all-wheel-drive. See the sidebar for more on the CLA 45 AMG.
The CLA 250 boasts some pretty impressive fuel economy numbers, besting many perceived economy cars and all of the competition. Transport Canada says it will use 7.8 litres of fuel in the city and 5.1 on the highway over a distance of 100 kilometres. On the road, the ride proved a bit harsh over rough surfaces but the CLA is a remarkably agile car with excellent steering and powerful brakes, rewarding when you get a bit aggressive.
The engine will propel it from rest to 100 km/hr, in a very competitive 6.7 seconds but there can be a bit of lag between ask and answer when the throttle is pushed wide open in some circumstances.
The CLA is very important for Mercedes Canada who hopes to create some excitement and new traffic in Mercedes stores with the style and attractive price point, people who might not have crossed that threshold before.

新 烤肉 看起来还不错

其实3系的内部空间真的不能算大
 
后驱轿跑,感觉不如填钱给老婆换 保时捷 的panarema????
 
Forget about C class! If you want to play the brand, you need pay the price. At least, E-class.
To drive a new CLA makes no difference of driving a poor condition and old Mercede Benz.
