Ottawa cops say a string of home robberies has been targeting residents of Asian descent with high-end valuables in their residences.
The police Break & Enter Team says the break-ins have occurred over the past three weeks across the city. A total of nine break-ins have occurred in the daytime and involve forced entry into secure homes.
The suspect(s) target the homes of persons of Asian descent. High-end jewellery and accessories such as handbags are being stolen.
In some cases, the thieves have gained entry to safes in the homes and taken the contents. Police urge residents who have valuable jewellery and/or gold bars and coins to consider placing these items in a safety deposit box and not keep the items in their home.
Police said they do not have any suspects.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Ottawa Police Break & Enter Team at 613-236-1222, ext. 2638 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS) or toll free at 1-800-222-8477.
