Heavy snow, poor visibility and bitter cold temperatures are dominating the U.S. Northeast-- a storm the U.S. National Weather Service warned would "raise havoc."
As the powerful storm whipped the winds off the coast of New England, the high tides at midnight and midday Friday were expected to cause coastal flooding in Massachusetts.
Officials did what they could, getting crews out to salt the roads and closing down the Long Island Expressway overnight.
New York's Long Island, along with parts of Massachusetts and Maine were expected to see blizzard conditions, dangerous driving and reduced visibilities.
Bad driving conditions were only expected to get worse, and the storms have already made a mess of air travel causing thousands of flight delays and cancellations in the region.
Some areas may already seem buried by snow, but the storm was only expected to make matters worse through Friday, especially in Boston, which has already seen more than 50 cm of snow.
Schools across the region were shut down and officials expect this monster system to affect an estimated 100 million people across 22 states.
