So I should be protected by law.

ottawa university has a legal clinic. it provides the free legal service for the students. but i am not sure whether they cover the students outside of Ottawa U. You can search their phone number online and give them a call.

did the employer pay tax for you and others? Did the emplyer hire students without working permit? ...etc

雇主一定要代扣税吗？好像说低收入的可以完全不扣税，报税时再看要不要补。

俺觉得楼主是个好青年，我见过不少不着调的留学生。像楼主这样的知道会自己打工替父母分忧的青年应该错不了。有谁能帮忙就帮忙，帮不了就别再给人家添堵。
BTW，这点钱想拿回来估计不易。就当买了个教训吧。

雇主一定要代扣税吗？好像说低收入的可以完全不扣税，报税时再看要不要补。

企业部分有cpp和ei的缴费问题。也不可能全雇留学生， 只要有现金工就有逃税金的可能。

你说的帮忙是直接给钱么？ 楼主不一定缺钱， 他是没拿到他应得的钱。

thanks for your advices but like someone mentioned above, I'm a student here and I have something more important to do than playing this kind of game with the employer. I don't have time and energy to deal with his illegal operation though I do know some students working there without valid work permits. I just don't want to hurt others by taking down him, and I don't care what punishment he would meet. All I want is to take back those supposed to be ours. Serving in a buffet restaurant is not a easy job.
