Yes. it's for hospital to pull out you information from thier system quickly (your identification card in that hospital system). With it, it saves a lot of time for the hospital and also for yourself (to use when you re-visit the hospital, or from one department to the other, etc.). The reception always asks if you have that card or not first. If not, you might be asked to go to certain location in the hospital to get the card and then come back to the reception to process further.不对啊，是给你让你带走的。难道是做好准备这次没医好，过两天再来，可以拿那个卡把上次的病历信息调出来？
With the card (usually in green) you got from the hospital, one of the examples of the advantage is that they will know you have visited them before and they have your record in their system already. If your record is already in their sytem, I guess that the process is much simpler than as treating a new patient.
