One westbound lane of Highway 417 has reopened at the Moodie Drive exit as emergency crews deal with a crash that sent two people to hospital, one of them in critical condition.
Flames broke out after the crash between a tractor trailer and a sedan on Friday morning at about 8 a.m. The fire has since been extinguished.
The force of the crash threw the driver of the tractor trailer from the cab. He was taken the The Ottawa Hospital's Civic campus trauma unit in critical condition, paramedics said.
A patient from the passenger sedan was taken to the Queensway-Carleton Hospital in serious but stable condition.
Traffic is backed up on Highway 417 westbound east of Moodie. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
