Today I browsed the Kijiji and found some ads asking for Christmas gifts, usually a mother with several children, who suffered from poverty. I felt so painful. In such a rich country and wealthy world, how come there are many poor kids......I mean, I know there are a lot of rich people.

These ads are most likely fakes. Don't get upset over them.

This country has a very large disparity of wealth and has one of the highest rate of child poverty in the developed world. Check the stats.

You guys are grossly mis-informed

I am not sure if you guys understand what going on.

1. People in "poverty". Canada defines poverty as below 60% of average income (according to my memory may not be very accurate). Based on this, there will always a certain percentage of "poor" people.

2. A single mother with children gets more money sitting on the couch than most of the working people. They get low rent house. The standard is one room for each person. Happy life.

3. One of my friend had the fxxking experience of sending Christmas gifts to needy family in the mid 1990s. He got to the beautiful 5 bedroom townhouse of a single mother. The single mother was very kind. Invited him into their home. The grand furniture and great Christmas tree and tons of gifts. Big screen TV and expensively dressed kids. The guy said: "I have never felt worse in my life and thought to myself - "what a fxxking fool are you?"

True, I bought some kids' clothes in Rideau Centre to the lady, and her phone cannot get through, and she promised she will pick up the gift at my door, and she didn't show up at all. I was misarably cheated.

It's called 80-20 rule, aka Pareto principle, which states that roughly 80% of the results come from 20% of the causes.
