Costing of water leak

I have a townhouse in upper unit; the owner of lower unit complains the water leak in his dry wall.

The repair person came to my unit and found the some leak from drain of furnace system.

I am not sure both of two units share the same furnace or we have two furnaces for two unit.

who is resposible of costing of repair in his lower unit?

Should I pay the expense of repair of his dry wall? The owner of lower unit wanted to talk to me, although he has not mentioned it directly, I thought he wants me to pay.

you have to pay that. There is insurance you could buy to cover that kind of things. Check your insurance company if it is already covered.

You should:
1. Get someone or yourself repair the leak to prevent further damage;
2. Check your insurance policy, if you don't have insurance, well...
3. Either you pay, negotiate a cost sharing or expect for a lawsuit, likely.

我曾经发大水把邻居也淹了，当时邻居找到我，正好我的保险在，我的保险就是让他找他的保险公司。

还有看到别人的例子，大树倒了把邻居的房子砸坏了，也是自己的保险修房。

不知道这样的经验能不能延伸到lz的情况，提出lz要负责的同学有什么经历？

You have to find out by yourself if the two units share the same furnace or not first, then somebody else may answer your question.
