Here are some tips and info that might help new students to OU:
School:
1. Tuition fees can be paid as following:
a) by cheque
b) online through your bank
c) Interact, by debit card
d) transfer fund from you teller
2. Books
There is no need to hurry to buy books now. When the school has started, you will receive course ouline that will tell you what book the professor want you to buy. Sometimes, there are used books you can buy, the ads for used books can be found everywhere in school, especially in Uni-center.
If you want to photo copy your book, there is a photo copier store called BUDGET COPY,face to Lowblaws on Rideau st., it will cost 4 cent per page. Another place to photo copy book is MAIL BOX ETC. you pay $50 to buy 1000 pages. This place is also face to Lowblaws on Rideau St.
3. Health card
If you are international student, you need to get a UHIP card, you can obtain the card at the International Office located in KingEdward ST ( close to 600, don't rememeber the exact number :blowzy: ) This card will cover your some drugs/medicine, 200 dollar dental(wash teeth only) and etc.
Living in Ottawa
1. Food
There are many place you can do grocery shopping, including some close ones to OU are Lowblaws, Loeb on Rideau ST. The Rideau Mall can be found 5 min walk from OU, where you can purchase your bustickets/pass, cloths (no good brands :crying ) and many other suff. For more info, please check the "shopping forum" on this wensite. China town is in Somerset St. you can purchase chinese goods in stores such as 168 Market. With CSA card, you can recive from 5-15% off for resturants and grocery store. For more info, please check the sponsor list.
2. Housing
I just all of you come to Ottawa early, no later than Mid-August, and find you a place to stay. It's really hard to find a good place near OU if you are late. This year is double cohort, doubled amount of students will come to OTtawa, and the residence in OU is not expanding, not many rooms are available. Some of you might have received offer if your average is above 80% for living in residence. However, I suggest all of you not doing that, the residence is really expensive and small. THe only good thing is it's close to class rooms.
