If I were your husband, I will come by myself for this trip. Kid is so distracting. Once you get the offer, you will have plenty time to enjoy the city with your family.
Ottawa does not have much to see anyway( no ZhuanTou, Please), especially if you only have a few hours. Yehh, the parliament hill is here, but with a small kid and taking the bus after the long day and tiring interview, would that be fun at all?
Check the bus route and take the early bus. Bus from Montreal goes to downtown Ottawa on Catherine Street. Take a good nap at the bus and rehersal the questions for the interview and take a good rest.
Train goes to St. Laurent station and would take longer and be harder to go to Kanata, while still be an option depends on the schedule.
96 is much more frequent if goes to Terry Fox Station. There are many restaurants around Terry Fox, then you could have a light lunch and take rest and take 96A before 12pm to go to the interview place, that would leave enough time for you.
Some company reimburse the trip cost for the interview, your husband could ask the HR for it, it won't affect his interview results, if he is the right person, they should be willing to pay you for the relocation fee.
Good Luck!
Everyone who has established a stable life here starts from a good interview. I recall taking a bus to an interview to Kanata many many years ago and the next week I got the offer, and 3 weeks later, we bought our first car.....
