你原来的硕士是COURSE BASED 还是 THESIS BASED?
加拿大博士入学比较苛刻.美国的硕士,如果没有论文,一样得从硕士开始.
不过,你可以入学后转博士,不会耽误时间.不过成绩要好.

Talk to your advisor about the chance to be transfered to Ph.D. program.
Generally speaking, there should be no problem.Some of my classmates did.

什么时候与导师谈硕转博的问题比较合适？现在，入学后，还是读硕士一年后？

It doesn't matter, Ph.D also need to take 5 courses.
I think you better ask your advisor when taking courses.
Master need 6 courses, if you don't want waste any time,
you probably don't want to take the sixth course or spend
time on master's thesis.

BTW, if your advisor has a long term project, he would like
you to take Ph.D. Otherwise, funding is a problem. You also
need to give him/her a good impression by having top marks
in your courses. Ph.D is not easy to get, so he/she may have
higher requirements. You need to show him/her your potential
of strong research ability.
If I were you, I would talk to the advisor when I was sure
he/she was very satified with me.

又有疑难问题请教：

advisor 和 supervisor是否含义不一样？Carleton现在给我指定了一位教授作我的program advisor，我给这教授写信，他在回信中说不是我的supervisor，但会帮助我找一个。

象我这种情况，是普遍现象呢，还是特例？如果导师还没指定，那么在offer中估计不会给我RA和TA，只能指望学校的scholarship了。

急切盼望高手指点。多谢！

如果有TA/RA,你的OFFER里应该写明有FINANCIAL SUPPORT.
ADVISOR未必是THESIS SUPERVISOR. 你可以入学后再找导师.
这是普遍现象.

听别人说，offer和finacial support好象在不同的信中寄给申请人，收到信的时间也不同。不知道是不是这种情况？

收到offer后需要给学校联系以确定去不去吗？一般在多长时间内必须答复学校？

If you don't have a supervisor, you cannot get RA. Because RA is
given by the supervisor. For TA, if you are Ph.D. candidate, you
have a better chance. As far as I know, no master student
admitted last year got TA. TA is very difficult to get these
years, and I don't know the criteria. I doubt if there is any
critera. Students of some professor may get TA easily. Other
student may never get TA no metter how good they are. If you
got TA, you really have very good luck! And if you got it,
you can hold it for at most 4 terms.

1、没有supervisor，就没有RA。
2、硕士很难申请到TA。
3、permanent resident很难申请到scholarship，因为scholarship主要考虑国际学生。

照这样看，要想上Carleton University，我还得自己挣钱上学。难啊！

don't worry. never heard someone is refused after the approval of
department. It just a procedure. you are 99.9% admitted!
