TORONTO - Three men are facing stunt driving charges in three separate incidents on Toronto highways.
Just after 4 a.m. Sunday, police clocked a vehicle going 113 kilometres an hour in a 60 km/h zone on Lake Shore Boulevard, and a 25-year-old man faces charges including stunt driving and impaired operation.
Minutes later, another vehicle was clocked at 144 km/h on the Don Valley Parkway, and a 22-year-old man was charged with speeding, stunt driving, driving under suspension and refusing to give a breath sample.
Toronto police say they stopped another vehicle around 2 a.m. Monday on the Gardiner Expressway after a vehicle was spotted travelling at 188 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.
A 37-year-old man is charged with stunt driving and speeding.
All three men were handed seven-day licence suspensions and had their vehicles impounded for the same period of time under Ontario's stunt-driving law.
The man facing impaired driving charges and the man who refused to give a breath sample were both handed additional licence suspensions of 90 days.
Toronto police say they have issued 38 suspensions for speeding and stunt driving so far this year and that alcohol was a contributing factor in five of the incidents.
"Speed and alcohol are two major contributing factors in fatal collisions," Const. Clint Stibbe said, urging people not to drink and drive. "You decide your speed, physics decides whether you live or die."
