OTTAWA — The Ottawa police are pressing ahead with a charge of discreditable conduct against Sgt. Steven Desjourdy.

The charge under the Police Services Act was related to the same incident that saw Desjourdy facing criminal charges for sexual assault — charges of which he was acquitted this week.

The PSA charge had been stayed while the criminal proceedings were underway, but in a press release issued Friday afternoon, the Ottawa police confirmed a disciplinary hearing would proceed unless the Crown Attorney appeals Desjourdy’s acquittal in the criminal matter in the next 30 days.

If the Crown appeals, the stay on the PSA charge will remain in effect.

The police service reviewed the decision by Justice Tim Lipson acquitting Desjourdy, as well as the details of the PSA charge, before deciding to proceed, the release said.
