MONTREAL — Negotiations to settle the Quebec construction strike broke down overnight.
The talks had resumed, in the presence of a provincial conciliator, on Sunday night.
The two sides remain at loggerheads over wages and overtime provisions.
More than 175,000 construction workers across the province walked out Monday last week.
Quebec Premier Pauline Marois had said Friday that she wants the dispute resolved before she leaves Wednesday for an official visit to Mexico.
In the absence of any rapid settlement, there was speculation that members of the Quebec National Assembly could be convened Tuesday to vote on return-to-work legislation.
